Make an annual photo album a special birthday or Christmas tradition for your child. It will become a treasure they cherish as they grow.
Photo albums are becoming passé.
When I went to the only major department store in town to buy a couple albums, I discovered they don’t carry them anymore! So, I went to the local dollar store. They had some there.
With everything digital now, you are probably wondering why I would be looking for photo albums.
Each year for the twin’s birthday, I put together a photo album of time spent with their dad and me. This is not a scrapbook. That’s too much work! It’s simply a photo album with a little caption on certain pictures that highlight events from the previous year.
I won’t deny that this takes some time, but the treasure it creates is worth the effort.
Here’s what I do:
- Take pictures of special events and everyday moments.
- Put these pictures in a file created for each child on your computer. I keep the file according to their birthdays, so each album is “When you were (their age)”. Or you may choose to do the albums according to the year, such as “2018” for a Christmas gift.
- Keep ticket stubs, programs and brochures for special events or places you visited. I have a file in my filing cabinet for these.
- In time for their birthday or Christmas, print photos and place them in a photo album in chronological order, remembering to add in the extra memorabilia you collected in the appropriate place. Sometimes I need to fold the brochures or programs, so they fit in the photo sleeve, but at least it’s still included.
- Caption the photos as appropriate. I like to use an electronic labeller for this.
