Best at Home Steak

Make perfectly tender steak at home any time of the year with these simple instructions.

Use a cast iron skillet for the best results.

INGREDIENTS:

Your favourite grilling steaks. Here is a list of the best steaks for grilling.

Salt

Seasoning – I like a cracked pepper medley.

2 tbsp                        Cooking oil

1 tbsp                        Butter

1 tsp                           Minced garlic

DIRECTIONS:

  • Sprinkle steak with salt and desired seasoning.
  • Let steak sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to get the chill out of it.
  • Place a cast iron skillet on a burner and turn to medium-high heat. Add 2 tbsp of oil. Let the skillet get nice and hot.
    • Cast iron is the best way to cook steak. It distributes the heat evenly and the steak has full contact with the skillet for optimal searing, caramelizing the sugars and browning the proteins perfectly.
  • Place steak in skillet. Reduce heat to medium. Cover with a spatter screen.
  • For a 1-inch-thick steak, cook four minutes on each side for medium-rare.
    • When turning the steak, if it sticks to the skillet it is not ready to turn. The steak will lift from the skillet easily when it’s done on that side. This is a general rule for searing any kind of meat.
  • When the steak is almost done on the second side, melt 2 tbsp butter in the skillet. Then baste the steak with the butter. Try adding minced garlic to the butter for added flavour.
  • I usually turn the steak one more time and cook another 2 minutes, especially if a lot of red juices come to the surface. This is dependent on how you like your steak.
  • Let the steak rest on a plate for a few minutes before you cut into it. This allows the meat to relax and prevents all the juices from running out of it.

That’s it! Enjoy!

How do you know the steak is done just the way you like it?

I found this finger test to check your steak for desired doneness.
