Homemade Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a satisfying snack full of healthy fat, protein and fiber.

But peanut butter can be full of salt, sugar, glucose-fructose and trans fats.  So read the label carefully to see what has been added to the peanut butter you are buying.

Or, better yet, make your own!

Homemade peanut butter is so easy to make and delicious. And it’s just peanuts!

Directions:

Roast unsalted peanuts on a cookie sheet in a 350°F oven for about five minutes. This heats the peanuts and releases the oil. You can roast longer if you want a more roasted flavour, just be careful not to scorch them.

NOTE: You can use salted peanuts, but I prefer to use unsalted. You can always add a little salt at the end, but I think you’ll find the roasted peanut flavour is all you need.

Put peanuts in a food processor to chop (after you cover it, of course!).

After a minute or so, your peanuts will look like this.

Optional: Add a teaspoon of oil (peanut oil, olive oil or vegetable oil), but you don’t have to.

Turn on the food processor again for a couple minutes. When it looks like this, it’s getting there, but not done yet!

After a couple more minutes, the peanut butter will look like this. Soooo good!

Put in a container, and refrigerate to keep it from separating. Enjoy!!

    Unsalted peanuts?

    1. Hi Patty. Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your question. I use unsalted peanuts. You can probably use salted peanuts, but I will say, I have not tried making peanut butter with salted peanuts. I would just add a little salt to taste, if needed.

I’ve been waiting since November to use up my current jar of peanut butter so I can try this. Today is the day! Was thinking of adding a touch of icing sugar for sweetness but will try without first and see how it is.
