Here is the matching oven door towel to the basket weave dishcloth pattern. It gets a little tricky around the button hole, but trust me, if I can do, so can you!
Use 100% cotton yarn, as you would with a dishcloth. Use 8 US (5 mm) knitting needles.
Cast on 60 stitches
Row 1-4: Knit 4 rows
Row 5: K3 *P3, K3* to last 3 stitches, K3
Row 6: K3 *K3, P3* to last 3 stitches, K3
Row 7 and 8: Repeat rows 5 and 6
Row 9: K3 *K3, P3* to last 3 stitches, K3
Row 10: K3 *P3, K3* to last 3 stitches, K3
Rows 11 and 12: Repeat rows 9 and 10
Rows 13-68: Repeat rows 5-12 seven times (now you have 68 rows)
Row 69: K2tog to end (30 stitches left)
Row 70: Knit
Row 71: K2tog (15 stitches left)
Row 72: Knit
Row 72: K2tog, K2tog, K9, K2tog (12 stitches left)
Row 74-101: Knit 28 rows
Row 102: K4, K2tog, K2tog, K4 (make sure gap is in the middle of row)
Row 103: K5, YO, YO, K5
Row 104: K6, P1, K5 (now you have a buttonhole)
Row 105: K2tog, K to last 2 stitches, SSK
Row 106: Knit
Repeat rows 105 and 106 until 8 stitches left on needle
Cast off, weave in ends, and sew button on.
just love this basket weave hanging knit pattern, coming up on needles soon and very soon. thank you
You’re welcome, Beverly. It’s my favourite pattern too. And I love the basket weave for my dishcloths.
Thank you for the feedback!
Julia
J’aimerais savoir que veux les lettres K. Y etc. Dans vos patrons de serviettes merci
Hi Micheline,
I don’t speak French, so I put your question in a translator.
This is what the abbreviations in the pattern stand for:
K = knit
P = purl
YO = yarn over
K2tog = knit 2 together
SSK = slip, slip, knit.
I hope that helps!
Blessings,
Julia
What do k3 *k3 mean
Hi Trudy,
Sorry for the delayed reply.
Each row you start and end with the knit 3. The *k3,p3* or knit 3, purl 3 is repeated to the last three stitches where you knit 3. The asterisks mean repeat the stitches/pattern inside the asterisks until otherwise indicated. And every second row you repeat *p3,k3* to get the basketweave pattern.
I hope this helps!
Julia
