Ring! Ring!
It’s 5 a.m. and mom jumps out of bed. The hospital is calling to see if she can work. I don’t remember her ever saying no.
Even though she worked shift work as a nurse, mom managed to have a healthy, home-cooked meal on the table every evening for supper. When she was working, she did the planning and my sisters and I would get the meal on the table.
Mom taught me the basics of cooking and baking and how to put a well-balanced meal together. But more importantly, she proved it is possible to make homemade meals even when life is busy. It’s all about planning and prioritizing.
As an adult, I enjoy cooking from scratch and providing healthy, homemade meals for my family. But I’m also a bit lazy, so I use common, everyday ingredients and keep the recipes simple.
Many of the recipes you will find on Homemaking Jewels are my variation of a recipe I have found elsewhere as referenced in the recipe. Other recipes are brand new concoctions I created and some are based off of recipes mom makes.
All of the recipes are tried and true and I hope you enjoy them!
