This is a basic, but delicious recipe for scalloped potatoes. To this basic recipe you can add ham, bacon, shredded cheese, diced onions or whatever you would like to try.
Serves 4 – 6.
INGREDIENTS:
5 -6 Potatoes, medium, peeled and thinly sliced
2 tbsp Butter
2 tbsp All-purpose flour
¾ tsp Salt
½ tsp Pepper
½ tsp Garlic powder
1 tbsp Onion flakes*
2 cups Milk
* I like to use my own green onion flakes dehydrated from the onions in my garden.
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Heavily butter casserole or cast-iron casserole or lightly grease casserole then line the casserole with well buttered parchment paper. This will make clean up a lot easier.
Peel and thinly slice potatoes. Layer slices evenly in the casserole.
On medium heat, melt butter in heavy saucepan.
Stir in flour so there are no lumps. Let it cook for a minute then add seasonings.
Stir in a little milk until well combined. Add remaining milk slowly, again stirring so there are no lumps.
Reduce heat a little and continue stirring until mixture is thickened. You do not want the mixture to boil.
Once thickened, pour over potato slices to cover.
Bake for 1 hour at 350°F.
Let the scalloped potatoes stand for a few minutes before serving.
Enjoy!
