Here are a few simple rules to keep in mind when cleaning a room.
- Start with a plan. Decide which room you are going to clean and how much cleaning is required such as dusting, putting things away, washing the floors and walls, etc.
- Pick it up and put it away. As you tidy up a room, put things away that belong in that room. Set anything that doesn’t belong in that room by the doorway to put away as you work through the house.
- Carry your cleaning supplies with you. Keep your cleaning supplies and tools in a bucket or caddy to carry with you as you clean.
- Clean from top to bottom. Start with dusting ceiling fans and cobwebs from the ceiling, then furniture, etc. Clean the floors last.
- Do one extra task. Do something that isn’t part of your regular cleaning routine such as organizing a closet to keep things from getting overwhelming.
- Clean it completely. Don’t leave a task half done.
- Let the cleaning supplies do the work. Cleaning products are made to make life easier! After you apply a cleaner to a surface let it sit a few minutes before wiping it clean.
- Avoid distractions. Turn on some music or listen to a podcast but keep the TV off.
