Equipment

  • 1 cookie sheet
  • 1 pastry blender
  • 1 bowl medium

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All purpose flour sifted before measuring
  • 4 tsp Baking powder
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp Shortening
  • ¾ cup Milk

Instructions

  • Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Cut in butter and shortening with a pastry blender, two knives or a fork until it resembles coarse oatmeal.
  • Add milk. Using a fork, mix into a dough. If needed, add up to 2 tbsp of milk, 1 tbsp at a time. The mixture can still be a bit crumbly.
  • Dump out onto a lightly floured surface and knead dough less than 5 times so it holds together. The less you handle the dough, the better.
  • Pat down to ¾ inch thick and cut with a 2-inch cookie cutter.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 425°F for 15 minutes.
  • Serve hot from the oven.
