1 cookie sheet
1 pastry blender
1 bowl medium
- 2 cups All purpose flour sifted before measuring
- 4 tsp Baking powder
- ½ tsp Salt
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 2 tbsp Shortening
- ¾ cup Milk
Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
Cut in butter and shortening with a pastry blender, two knives or a fork until it resembles coarse oatmeal.
Add milk. Using a fork, mix into a dough. If needed, add up to 2 tbsp of milk, 1 tbsp at a time. The mixture can still be a bit crumbly.
Dump out onto a lightly floured surface and knead dough less than 5 times so it holds together. The less you handle the dough, the better.
Pat down to ¾ inch thick and cut with a 2-inch cookie cutter.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 425°F for 15 minutes.
Serve hot from the oven.
